To run Photoshop, Windows Vista requires at least 2GB of RAM and Windows XP or Windows 7 requires at least 1GB of RAM.
* If you’re a Windows user, Photoshop Elements 3 requires at least 250MB of RAM or a 2GB hard drive.
Like other programs in the Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop includes all the font files and other icons needed to set up your workspace. You start by selecting the home page, which looks like Figure 5-1, from the Photoshop application menu. You’re asked to first give your workspace a name (usually “New Document”). After that, you can start designing the site.
1. **On the Home tab, click the New button (the icon with the plus sign)**.
The New dialog box appears (Figure 5-2).
Figure 5-2. Adobe’s home page offers some quick-start tips about the CS5 features you just activated. Click these tips to learn about the different tools you get with your Photoshop subscription. The things labeled with question marks or asterisks are part of the free Creative Suite, so they’re a great deal.
2. **Specify a name for your new project**.
This name appears in your New Document drop-down list as you start working in Photoshop.
## Tools for the Web
Photoshop’s tools can be categorized into the following groups:
* **Design tools**. You use these to draw, edit, save, and annotate images. The available tools in this category are described in the following sections.
You must first pay for Adobe Photoshop if you wish to edit images.
This article reviews the best free Photoshop Elements alternatives.
Before we dive into the comprehensive list of Photoshop Elements alternatives, let us take a look at why you may want to use Photoshop Elements.
Why Use Photoshop Elements?
You are an enthusiast who wishes to use Photoshop Elements due to the following reasons:
The ability to easily edit, manipulate, or create images is an extremely powerful tool. Photoshop Elements allows anyone to create high quality images, even if they have no formal training in photography.
For many, the tutorials for Photoshop Elements are more easily followed than those for Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop Elements is less expensive than Photoshop
You are less concerned with the price of using the computer software than with the price of your time and energy. If this is you, Photoshop Elements may be your best option.
Adobe Photoshop Elements may be more appropriate for those who don’t know how to use Photoshop. For example, you may use Photoshop Elements to edit a picture of your baby, and then have someone help you create a multi-colored dinosaur poster.
With Photoshop Elements, you can create special effects, such as artistic brushstrokes or lightning strikes, or you can create composites and HDR images, which can be difficult to do in Photoshop.
There are plenty of free resources for Photoshop Elements
You don’t want to break the bank using a tool like Photoshop Elements, and you need to select an alternative that offers the same great features. There are a plethora of tutorial sites, like those available on Lynda.com, that teach you everything from macro photography to web design.

1. Photoshop Press
Photoshop Press is a community of Photoshop users who create free Photoshop tutorials, some of which are exclusive to this website. They started in March 2017 and already have over 100 videos for you to browse, learn, and watch. To save you some time, I have highlighted the top Photoshop Elements videos below:
Video 1: Basics of Photoshop Elements: Learn the basics of Photoshop Elements in this free quick-start video from the Photoshop Press Academy.
Video 2: “Create” a White House with Photoshop Elements: In this tutorial, learn how to make a simple white-on-black poster, using a color palette and blending modes.

This is the first of two articles I’m writing today. The other will talk about using the Google Adwords keyword planner to find relevant keywords and phrases for your post.
So where do you start? I think that you must come up with an index of things you know. How will they be connected to the topic? How will they match the topic? Then you want to let the keyword planner do some of the hard work.
I use Google Adwords keyword planner but there are many others. For some of them, you need to be a Google user. I think that’s a good thing because it can give you a head start and you can use it to find relevant keywords.
Let’s say I just want to write about World YoYo Day. I’m not going to write the whole article but just a few paragraphs about it. Where do I start? Well I might know a few things that are related to it. Let’s say I know that there is a post out there on the day and there is a link. Maybe there is a link to a video that shows some yo-yo tricks.
So is World YoYo Day related to that? Perhaps yes. Or maybe it is not. What I want to do is create a list of all the things I know about YoYo Day. Let’s just come up with three of them.
YoYo Day – This is the official day to celebrate the yo-yo. I know this because I saw a video with a YoYo Day theme (that’s not a sponsorship post)
Yo-Yos – Yo-yos are objects that are used to play and exercise the yo-yo arm muscles. As with many things, yo-yos are made from plastic. They are round and made up of two pieces. The yo-yo is the object that is used by the player to play the game.
Yo-Yoism – Yo-yoism is the philosophy, practice, or study of yo-yoing.
So my list now looks like this: YoYo Day Yo-Yos Yo-Yoism
This is a start. I can still add more ideas. I just don’t want to over complicate things. I’m just trying to find out what is relevant to World YoYo Day.
Once I have my list, I move onto the keyword planner. I first go
Can I set a custom date format for a field in a Python SQLite table?
When I insert a new value into a SQLite table, the date is inserted with the following format:
Since this is not a regular date, I cannot sort on it.
How can I set it to a Python datetime format?
You can specify the column’s formatting using the _INDEX system index.
First create an index using the _INDEX expression, then update the table’s column definition to use it.
CREATE TABLE _some_table (_id integer PRIMARY KEY, date text)
CREATE INDEX _some_table_idx ON _some_table (date(_DATE))
ALTER TABLE _some_table ALTER COLUMN date _DATE
You can now find the date with a datetime.date() query.
For more information, please have a look at the SQLite documentation on index expressions.
This invention relates generally to semiconductor circuits, and more particularly to clock generating circuits for high speed memory systems.
Clock generators are utilized in both digital and analog circuit designs to generate a clock signal. Depending on the type of circuit, it is desirable to use a clock signal with different characteristics. For example, in a clock generating circuit for a digital circuit, it is desirable to have a clock signal with as long a period as possible to reduce signal delay in the digital circuit. Typically, to generate a long clock period, a crystal oscillator is utilized. However, due to inaccuracies of the crystal oscillator, the output clock period of the crystal oscillator is not a guaranteed constant value. To reduce the variation in the clock period, a clock counting circuit is utilized. Depending on the design of the clock counting circuit, it is also desirable to have a self-starting clock generator. In other words, a clock signal should have some initial clock period to “wake up” a digital circuit. As such, a phase-locked loop (PLL) can also be used to generate a desired clock signal.
A crystal oscillator provides a guaranteed output clock period by controlling the quality factor of the crystal. A disadvantage of using a crystal oscillator to generate a clock signal is that the
