We invite you to participate in the Videoconference on “The Political Economy of Internet Technology (PIT) (the Political Economy of the Internet),” co-sponsored by the CESA Center for the Study of Democracy and the Center for Internet, Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law.
Speakers will include:
Dr. Hillel Lavine is a professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Prior to joining the Kennedy School, Dr. Lavine was a member of the Institute for New Economic Thinking and the Thomas W. Jones Center for the Study of Democracy.
Dr. Lavine previously held positions as an assistant professor and director of the Center for the Study of Media, Policy, and Democracy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; a senior fellow at the Pardee RAND Graduate School, the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, and the Nathan Kirshner Institute for Social Research.
Dr. Lavine is the author of Public Choice and Political Change: From the Classical Moment to the New Economy (MIT Press, 2002); he is also the author, co-editor, and co-editor of several books on the political economy of technology and other issues, including:
– The Political Economy of Internet Regulation (MIT Press, 2008);
– The Politics of Information: Information and Power in Social Theory (with Tom Burns, Cambridge University Press, 2009);
– Digital Political Economy: The Internet, the Knowledge Economy, and the Electronic Commons (with Tom Burns, Cambridge University Press, 2011).
